In episode 60 of the Acceleration Economy Minute, Kieron Allen discusses Fortinet, which is on our Top 10 list of Cybersecurity Enablers, and its work to address the cybersecurity skills shortage through new training and services.

This episode is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s Digital CIO Summit, taking place April 4-6. Register for the free event here. Tune in to the event to hear from CIO practitioners discuss their modernization and growth strategies.

Highlights

00:35 — Fortinet is attempting to tackle the cybersecurity skills shortage by expanding its training. The company introduced new Security Operations Center (SOC) augmentation services to support organizations struggling to build cybersecurity teams amid the shortage.

00:52 — Initiatives like this can alleviate some pressure on understaffed cybersecurity teams by providing immediate support through professional training. Services include an expansion of Fortinet’s SOC as a Service (SOCaaS) offering with more artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities to help aggregate security alerts to a single cloud-based dashboard, speeding up alert triage and reducing false positives.

02:13 — Beyond this, Fortinet’s training institute is adding programs that make it easier for users to achieve industry-recognized training and certifications. Some of the initiatives include making certain practical and written exams available online and sponsoring cybersecurity-focused initiatives for younger people. The goal: uncover new talent pools and help build the Cyber Workforce, with a big focus on underrepresented groups.
