Highlights

00:13 — This episode is brought to you by the Cloud Wars Expo. This in-person event will be held June 28th to 30th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

00:35 — There’s a new frontier of AI-infused into biological organisms—and there are mixed feelings revolving around this new self-replicating organism.

01:08 — Tufts University, Harvard University, and the University of Vermont have research teams that have created xenobots.

01:19 — These nanobots can perform kinematic self-replication, essentially creating new organisms from the originals powered by AI being infused into cells. While these collections of living cells do not have brains or digestive systems, they can be programmed to interact with other cells.

02:00 — When this was announced, there were so major ethical concerns, not only about the attempt to harness or redefine life but about where this path could lead. What would happen if it falls into the wrong hands? Are we witnessing the next evolution of humans?

02:33 — Researchers involved with the development of xenobots should consider a decentralized governance model around this. Although there are some uncertainties, there are many possibilities with these advancements, such as with medicine and life-saving procedures.
