Welcome to Episode 55 of the Cloud Wars Horizon Minute â€” featuring news and commentary hosted by Acceleration Economy analyst Tom Smith. Each episode provides insights into one or more Innovation Accelerators on the Cloud Wars Horizon. This episode focuses on SAS’ cloud initiative.

Highlights

01:00 â€” Today’s report comes from the cloud software market’s better-late-than-never department, as long-time analytics powerhouse SAS is making its core analytics technology available in the cloud, specifically the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.

01:10 â€” The company is offering full access to SAS Viya — including Visual Analytics, Visual Statistics, Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning, and Model Manager — on Azure.

01:27 â€” The Viya platform offers both programmable and low-code/no-code options in a single interface so that users of diverse skill levels can take advantage of its technology.

01:50 â€” One customer quoted in the SAS announcement, National Bank of Greece, says a cloud-based version increases its agility and efficiency.

01:57 â€” The SAS Viya Azure offering features integrations with Azure Machine Learning, Power Apps, Power Automate, IoT Hub, and Security Services, as well as Microsoft 365, and others.

02:25 â€” SAS is renowned and respected in the software, analytics, and business worlds for the many innovative things it’s done over the years, so no slight intended, but I have to wonder why it took until late 2022 to move to the dominant information technology (IT) architecture that has been thriving for years.
