In episode 50 of the Data Modernization Minute, Wayne Sadin continues his discussion on generative AI, noting that the current state of the technology has led to an “arms race,” and advises CIOs and CFOs to ensure the return on investment (ROI) of generative AI is worth the cost.

This episode is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s Digital CIO Summit, taking place April 4-6. Register for the free event here. Tune in to the event to hear from CIO practitioners discuss their modernization and growth strategies.

Highlights

00:47 — Generative AI has taken the tech world by storm in the last several weeks. Announcements from major vendors in the technology industry have prompted things “to occur very quickly” as it relates to generative AI.

01:06 — As a CIO, Wayne says he wonders “what things cost when you have an arms race.” He says those who will win the “arms race” that is generative AI is the “arms merchants.”

01:29 — We are all hearing about the power of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, but there has not been much discussion about the cost of these tools. Wayne encourages users to “be seduced by the interface, learn how they work, but at some point, you have to pay the piper.”

02:03 — Wayne’s message to CIOs and CFOs is to consider what the ROI would be for generative AI “once the fully loaded cost becomes available.”
