Many people take earbuds for granted nowadays. But, technology is changing to address much-needed advancements for the hearing impaired. #Hearables is a newer term that is often overshadowed by the #Wearables term. However, the field of hearable devices is making strides into very fascinating areas.
Hearable vs. Wearable
Put simply, wearable devices are just technological devices that you wear that have smart sensors and can track data – like a smart watch, for example. Hearable technology takes it to the next level by putting that technology directly into your ear. Some forms of hearable devices that may come to mind include wireless earbuds or even hearing aids. However, these crossover devices do more than just enhance audio. They combine a variety of smart technology. For instance, advancements in hearable devices include health and fitness tracking as well as more accurate biometric sensing. Additionally, they can put the virtual assistants, commonly seen in smart technology nowadays, in your ear, too.
These are just some of the advancements that have already come with hearable devices. With all of these advancements, it is evident how there is even greater potential in assisting the hearing impaired. In this “Back @ IT” episode, I explore the area of hearables.
