The C-Suite isn’t static. Roles and responsibilities align with technological, economic, and even societal developments. Consider the role of the Chief Data Officer. In under a decade, the responsibility for data management and governance has shifted from IT to a dedicated department. Today, the data team is critical to the success of every forward-thinking organization.
As every member of the C-Suite knows, the business world is on the cusp of a technological revolution, one that could fundamentally shape the future of collaboration and customer interactions. With the onset of Web 3.0 and the Metaverse, there is a requirement for a new seat at the table. The Chief Metaverse Officer will guide their organization through this new, but often baffling, landscape to ensure it doesn’t get left behind.
What Does Web 3.0 Mean for Business?
Web 3.0 will have profound implications for businesses as the next iteration of the internet. These sweeping changes will call for adaptations in every corner of an organization.
Businesses can garner more trusted relationships with consumers by providing better access to their data. Providing this level of access will undoubtedly become the norm. For companies to compete, they must support this degree of transparency.
Web 3.0 promises to be more secure and flexible. Businesses can experiment with new ways of engaging with their audiences while maintaining a safe operating environment.
Web 3.0 will usher in an age of collaborative engagement that could throw the most significant market players off the top spot. The age of mass comms is over. You could excel as an organization that targets users based on their individual preferences while respecting their rights to privacy and autonomy.
Beyond this, organizations must race to adopt the decentralized data architecture, AI tools, and next-generation edge computing that will define the Web 3.0 age. These technologies will ultimately enable organizations to do more, more quickly, and for more use cases.
Although the terms are used interchangeably, Web 3.0 and the Metaverse are two different things. While the Metaverse is interactive and visual, Web 3.0 provides the supporting technologies to enable it. And it’s in this Metaverse landscape, that the Chief Metaverse Officer will be required to operate.
Role of the Chief Metaverse Officer
While Web 3.0 will provide countless opportunities for businesses to adapt their approach to promoting sustainable growth, the Metaverse delivers an entirely new direction. As organizations transition operations to the Metaverse, they can experiment with new customer interaction strategies, diverse audiences, new products, collaborative partnerships, AR and VR technologies, and more.
The keyword here is an experiment. The Metaverse, as it is today, still so new that every innovation is, in some ways, experimental. That’s why it’s so important to have someone at the helm to drive these innovations and oversee your experiments.
The multi-layered nature of the Metaverse means that there will be a considerable degree of crossover. For this reason, a Chief Metaverse Officer will be required to straddle your IT, marketing, data, and compliance teams. The Metaverse will infiltrate every digitally-focused corner of your organization, so you’ll need a tech-savvy candidate at the helm.
However, your Chief Metaverse Officer need not be from CIO, CEO, or CDO stock. Instead, you may benefit from searching for someone with the capabilities to think a little differently and accept abstract ideas and approaches. Perhaps, someone from the entertainment or cultural sector would be a good fit.
Eventually, your Chief Metaverse Officer could be presiding over an entire Metaverse team.
Unravel the Mysteries of the Metaverse
At Cloud Wars Expo, I’ll be running a series of tracks and sessions and moderating critical panel discussions that unravel the mysteries of the Metaverse and explore its opportunities. Soon, the Chief Metaverse Officer will navigate the diversity, eccentricity, and capabilities of the Metaverse.
By the time you leave Cloud Wars Expo 2022, you’ll not only be equipped with the knowledge you need to adopt or divvy out this role, but you’ll have a clear idea of how it could help transform your organization. The next seat on the C-Suite will shake up the board like never before.
